Attorney Steven Tepp explains the U.S. copyright registration requirement and why it matters. He will explain the import of the United States Supreme Court’s recent decision in Unicolors, Inc. v. H&M Hennes & Mauritz, L.P. Finally, he will talk about common problem areas, such as compilations and group registrations, and practical and ethical problems that can arise when a mistake is made.

Steven Tepp
Steven Tepp is a globally recognized expert in intellectual property law and policy. He teaches intellectual property at George Washington University Law School. He has served as senior counsel for Policy and International Affairs at the United States Copyright Office and as Chef Intellectual Property Counsel for the Global Intellectual Property Center of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Tepp co-authored the Copyright Office’s Digital Millennium Copyright Act Section 104 Report to Congress (2001), as well as its 2003 and 2006 Section 1201 Rulemakings. He is the President and founder of Sentinel Worldwide, an IP consultancy, and the co-founder of RightsClick.
David Newhoff
David Newhoff is a widely respected advocate of creators’ rights. He has written nearly 900 articles on the topic of copyright and is also the author of the book, Who Invented Oscar Wilde? The Photograph at the Center of Modern American Copyright. In addition to writing the popular blog, The Illusion of More, he is a developer and co-founder of RightsClick.
